Neroli Essential Oil: Why It Uplifts, Calms and Supports the Skin

Neroli Essential Oil: Why It Uplifts, Calms and Supports the Skin

Why Neroli Essential Oil Makes You Feel Good

Neroli essential oil has a unique ability to both uplift and calm at the same time - which is why it can have such a noticeable effect on how you feel.

The scent of orange blossom is softly floral with fresh, green citrus notes.
Clean, delicate, but with a depth that lingers.

The first time I experienced the sweet, clean floral and green citrus notes of Neroli, I was completely taken by it - it felt both calming and quietly uplifting at the same time.
To me, it’s the scent of spring in Spain.

A Simple Way to Use It

Emotional & Aromatherapy Benefits

Neroli has long been used in aromatherapy for its effect on the nervous system.

It is often chosen to support:

  • stress and tension

  • anxiety

  • low mood

Some studies have also shown it may help reduce feelings of shock and emotional overwhelm.

What makes neroli particularly interesting is its ability to both relax and uplift - a rare balance in essential oils.

What is Neroli Essential Oil?

Neroli is distilled from the blossom of the orange tree.

The flowers are extremely delicate and are usually hand-picked.
They must be distilled within hours to preserve both their scent and therapeutic properties.

Like many essential oils, neroli contains a complex mix of naturally occurring plant compounds.
This delicate balance is what gives it its calming yet uplifting effect.

It is also one of the most precious essential oils - both in terms of cost and the care required to produce it.

Note:
Neroli is one of the most commonly adulterated essential oils.
Without proper testing, it can be difficult to detect - although scent is often the clearest indicator.

Skin Benefits of Neroli

Neroli is known for being particularly gentle and supportive to the skin.

It can help to:

  • reduce redness and irritation

  • support dry or sensitive skin

  • improve the appearance of broken capillaries

  • encourage healthy skin renewal

Its regenerative properties make it a valuable ingredient in products designed to support skin health over time.

It is a key ingredient in belly oils and balms during pregnancy - as it is said to help reduce stretch marks.

Neroli in My Formulations

Neroli Cleansing Oil

A Brief History

Although often referred to as neroli, it is essentially orange blossom oil.

The name is believed to come from the Princess of Nerola, who was known for scenting her gloves with orange blossom in the 17th century.

It has been distilled since at least the late 1500s and was also used in the original Eau de Cologne in the early 1700s - valued for its fresh, uplifting scent and its effect on the nervous system.

In Summary

Neroli is a beautifully balanced essential oil.

It supports the skin, calms the mind, and gently uplifts the mood - all at the same time.

A small detail within a formulation, but one that can quietly transform how a product feels to use.
